Captivate Theatre brings ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ back to Scotland

Richard Bean’s hilarious play ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ is being revived in a new production from Edinburgh-based Captivate Theatre, running at the Brunton Theatre Musselburgh from Friday 11th till Saturday 12th March 2022.

‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ follows Francis Henshall as he becomes minder to Roscoe Crabbe, a small time East End hood, now in Brighton to collect £6,000 from his fiancée’s dad. But Roscoe is really his sister Rachel posing as her own dead brother, who’s been killed by her boyfriend Stanley Stubbers.

Holed up at The Cricketers’ Arms, the permanently ravenous Francis spots the chance of an extra meal ticket and takes a second job with one Stanley Stubbers, who is hiding from the police and waiting to be re-united with Rachel. To prevent discovery, Francis must keep his two guvnors apart. The trouble is that Francis Henshall is easily confused! Chaos reigns as he tries to stop his two guvnors from meeting each other. Set in Brighton in the 1960s, this award-winning play is a glorious comedy with satire, slapstick and live music.

‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ was originally produced by the National Theatre back in 2011, starring James Corden as Francis Henshall. Captivate Theatre has a fabulous cast of local talent lined up to bring you something very special, the cast are as follows; Scott Coltman (Francis Henshall), Georgia-Lee Roberts (Rachel Crabbe), John Knox (Stanley Stubbers), Craig Lowe (Charlie Clench), Sally Cairns (Pauline Clench), Dannielle Logan (Dolly), Les Fulton (Harry Dangle), Frankie O’Connor (Alan), Sandy Queenan (Lloyd) and Charlie Munro (Alfie). With vocals from Hazel Beattie and Fraser Hume on piano.

The production also features set design by Sandy Queenan, plus costume & props from Mairi Cross and Charlotte Nicholson.

Artistic Director of Captivate Theatre, Sally Lyall, directs this comedy and had this to say in regards to the production; “Captivate is a local company that brings together local actors, musicians and performers from across Edinburgh and beyond and offers opportunity for all ages.  This is our first play outwith the fringe and what a fantastic play it is.  The cast is extremely talented, and I guarantee a hilarious night at the theatre.”
