‘The Lion King’ will make a triumphant return to the Edinburgh Playhouse for a strictly limited run from 2nd June to 2 July 2022. The musical’s previous Edinburgh run was postponed in March 2020, due to the COVID-19 lockdown, however, the production is returning in 2022 to complete its wildly successful run.
The Edinburgh Playhouse’s theatre director, Colin Marr, had this to say in regards to the production returning:
“Itās a real pleasure to be able to welcome the return of Disney’s The Lion King to the Edinburgh Playhouse.
We were in the last few weeks of its record-breaking five-month run when we were forced to close our doors in March 2020.

THE LION KING touring company will be welcomingĀ Stephenson Ardern-SodjeĀ as Simba andĀ Nokwanda KhuzwayoĀ as Nala, who previously played the role in Germany and Brazil. IrelandāsĀ Alan MchaleĀ will be returning in a new role as Timon with Cardiff born newcomerĀ Owain Rhys DaviesĀ taking the role of Ed.
