Following a red warning set in place by the Met Office, Scotland has been battered by Storm Éowyn since 10am this morning. The storm has caused power outages, damage to buildings, fallen trees, and debris scattered across streets, roads, and railways.
With this warning and public travel services postponed across Scotland – theatres and producers have no choice but to cancel productions due to play across the country this evening.
Please see below the list of of some of today’s cancelled performances, if you have tickets to these shows please get in touch with your ticket provider:
THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED IF ANY FURTHER SHOWS ARE CANCELLED…
Mary Poppins – Edinburgh Festival Theatre – 19:30
The Rocky Horror Show – Edinburgh Playhouse – 17:00/20:30
The Merchant of Venice – The Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh – 19:30
Here You Come Again – Glasgow King’s Theatre – 19:30
Celtic Connections: Winter Bloom – The Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow – 19:30

These decisions have been wisely made by theatres and producers to ensure the safety of their staff, casts, and audience members. Many audience members have reached out on social media to comment on the lateness of these decisions. Understandably there has been a delay in an immediate response from some companies as this will mean a considerable financial loss, especially for those who are unable to rearrange dates. Most companies ask audience members to please bear with them as everyone will have to be contacted for re-arranged dates or in some cases a refund.
For now audience members will be remaining indoors, and theatres will be closed, ideally just in time for The Traitors finale – we know that’s what the Theatre Scotland will be watching.
