Scotland’s largest seated theatre, the Edinburgh Playhouse, re-opens on Tuesday 14th September after being closed since March 2020. The theatre was originally supposed to open on Sunday 5th September with two performances of Chris and Rosie Ramsey’s ‘Shagged Married Annoyed’, however due to a technical fault with the theatre’s safety curtain the shows were not able to go ahead. The sold out performances have been rescheduled to Sunday 5th December.
The theatre will now re-open to audiences this coming Tuesday with Dolly Parton’s hit musical ‘9 to 5’. The new UK touring production based on the 1980s film features Louise Redknapp as Violet, Vivian Panka as Judy, Stephanie Chandos as Doralee, Julia J Nagle as Roz and Sean Needham as Franklin Hart Jr.
After 16 months of the 3,000 seater theatre laying dormant, Scottish audiences will step back in the Playhouse for one of the biggest productions to come to the country since before the pandemic began. Ambassador Theatre Group have also taken safety precautions to make sure that audiences are entering a covid safe area. The Playhouse posted the below statement:
“We will be requiring all adult customers to share their COVID-19 status with either proof of a negative PCR/lateral flow test OR a record of your vaccination status from NHS Scotland. We will also be requiring everyone, unless medically exempt, to wear a face covering in our venue while not drinking or eating at your seat.”
These precautions are mandatory and are completely understandable considering the severe impact the pandemic has had on the theatre industry. Therefore audiences can be rest assured they are entering a safe enviroment to enjoy a fabulous night of entertainment in one of Scotland’s best venues.
