If you’ve ever wondered how one can solve world peace, I highly suggest you go see Noam Shuster Eliassi, who can tell you all the complexities, joys and let downs of being an Iranian Jew activist from Israel/Palestine.
Taking the stage in front of a crowded, incredibly small and unreasonably warm room you actually want to stay in forever by the end of it, Noam takes us on a journey from her childhood to her early 30s and delivers punchline after punchline. A comic worthy of the name, she teaches us about the differences in culture and backgrounds, jokes about history and its impact on the generation of today, mocks her family who proudly sit in the audience and join in parts in telling us key little moments of their life which makes the audience feel part of a family gathering.
A microphone is provided, to help drown out the sounds of the bar outside, but Noam makes no use of it and indeed she does not need as she projects, entertains and delights for 50 minutes. Multiculturalism at its finest and its most normal, Noam tells us stories of almost getting engaged to a Saudi prince, the anticipation of performing at the Kennedy Centre and most of all how comedy can unite us in times where instability rules us all. But I believe Noam and her show can save the world.
So do bring yourself to a small venue where a big wonderful personality shows how funny life is and how we are all capable of living with each other – I suggest you don’t start liking people or Noam will be out of a job, having solved the world’s problems.
