‘Randy Feltface: Alien of Extraordinary Ability’ (Assembly George Square Studios – Studio Two) | Review By Lewis C. Baird

The international star, Randy Feltface, returns to Edinburgh with his show ‘Alien of Extraordinary Ability’. In this hilarious and at points harrowingly honest show, Randy delivers a candid scope of planet earth, examining how messed up the human race really is. Randy is playing Studio Two in Assembly George Square studios at 21:15 until 28th August.

Randy is infamous for his viral videos which have tickled people all over the world for the bonkers and madcap comedy this ingenious little alien provides. What wasn’t expected was Randy to be even more funny and bonkers in person. Randy is utterly hilarious, his anecdotes come out of thin air but oh boy, they leave the audience in stitches. That’s the appeal, just nonsensical humour which does at times come close to the bone, but in a classy and very reflective manner. Apart from the odd d*ck joke which is just golden crude humour.

A highlight is Randy talking to the audience. The interaction is probably a highlight in the show, especially with Steven, an electrical engineer from Dundee. Who (unfortunately for Randy) was on his own and had just broken up with his partner two weeks prior. This made for much hilarity with Randy practically having a breakdown on stage, acknowledging he had dug too deep. It was hilarious and it was very admirable of Randy to play with spontaneous moments like this and embed it in the performance, it’s dangerous but with Randy’s madcap attitude it pays off.

There were moments where things got serious, and Randy discussed the issues facing the world, there was of course humour there but it was very much a candid statement which the silence in the room signified the agreement of the serosity, then there was a sense of relief with the comedy.

The only truly flat moment for myself within the whole performance is a section where Randy breaks down a Liam Neeson scene, it is farcical and silly, but it felt a bit off pace. That being said, Randy’s interrogation of Steven had not long passed, that’s a hard act to follow up.

Randy Feltface is one of the best comedy acts playing the Fringe this year, his internationally renowned status is truly justified in this hour of stellar entertainment.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
