‘Nobody’s Talking About Jamie’ (Iron Belly, Underbelly Cowgate) | Review By Keiran McLean

From a bad break up to rooming with an extravagant American spin instructor – Nobody’s Talking About Jamie hits the stage of Underbelly Cowgate to tell his story – from how he went from proposing to his ex girlfriend, to now being “that bitch”.

Jamie Finn blends storytelling, comedy and original music as he explores the chaotic anecdotes from his 20s. The story explores platonic love, hurt, friendship and finding your new self through exploring new opportunities.

The set was simplistic but everything had a purpose. The spin bike centre stage was the catalyst for driving the timeline of the story and the instruments were front of stage so the audience knew that sooner or later another original, hilarious song was gonna be played. As soon as you enter the room you can smell the incense burning away, putting you right into the artistic, hipster “factory” Jamie and Lily lived in.

Finn was incredibly entertaining. The originality of the piece was very fresh and from start to finish his storytelling had the audience hooked and bent over laughing. Recapping his early-mid twenties allowed him to even create a character arc for his life experiences and Finn took the audience on the journey with him, exerting every emotion he could out of the viewers. Finn’s energy was very high for the entirety of the piece and he maintained a great level and pacing until the end, allowing the audience to stay engaged at all times. Finn is a hilarious, hilarious performer and knows exactly how to work the crowd.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a very funny, entertaining, creative and easy going show to bring joy to your day – look no further than Nobody’s Talking About Jamie.
